A sure sign that we’re entering the second third of the 2021-22 season is that fans and media are starting to speculate about which teams might do what in the weeks leading up to the March 21 trade deadline. The Detroit Red Wings are no exception, and some eagle-eyed media folk have fanned the flames
Tyler Bertuzzi is expected to be available for the Detroit Red Wings’ next game, rejoining his teammates after a stay in COVID-19 protocol. Getting back a top-line forward and power-play stalwart is welcome news to a team trying to overturn a three-game losing skid, but what would really help is if Bertuzzi looks more like his
Detroit — How would the Red Wings respond? That’s what captain Dylan Larkin wanted to know after the Wings were trounced by the Nashville Predators at Little Caesars Arena, then headed out for a 48-hour road trip to St. Louis and Colorado. The look on Larkin’s face and the dejection in his voice after Friday’s 7-3 blowout loss
The challenge right now for the Detroit Red Wings is to prove they are serious about the identity they want to establish. They’ve demonstrated their competitiveness when their plan begins with tight defense — but they’ve also faltered without said defense, especially on the road. It leaves them, once again, looking to the respite of
Denver – The Colorado Avalanche are a powerful offensive team, the best scoring team in the NHL, and for an opponent, there is no better team to test yourself defensively. The Red Wings had their opportunity Friday, lost 7-3, and came away knowing there’s a lot of work to do defensively. “It was a litmus
Denver —This short, but difficult road trip wasn’t kind to the Red Wings. Detroit (13-12-3) lost its third consecutive game, and went winless through the two-game journey to St. Louis and Colorado after Friday’s 7-3 loss to the Avalanche. In those three losses, they’ve allowed 18 goals while being outscored 18-7. In both St. Louis and Colorado — as well

DENVER — The Detroit Red Wings endured a scare to one of their top players and suffered another lopsided loss on the road. Their attempt at a comeback Friday at Ball Arena was short-lived as the Colorado Avalanche unleashed a flurry that saw both Detroit goalies snowed under. Denver — The Red Wings aren’t winning many games on the road. They won’t win many if they continue to play like they did Thursday in a 6-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues. The Wings struggled in several areas. Most disappointing was their inability to get to the Blues’ net and create havoc i
St. Louis — They’re one team at Little Caesars Arena, competitive and winning hockey games, but the Red Wings are another one away from their home rink. The Wings lost for the ninth time in 13 games (4-8-1) Thursday away from LCA, falling 6-2 to the St. Louis Blues. The Wings (13-11-3) had good stretches of play
Warren Mayes | Associated Press ST. LOUIS — Nathan Walker scored his first career hat trick and fourth-string goaltender Charlie Lindgren made 29 saves, leading the St. Louis Blues to a 6-2 victory Thursday night over the Detroit Red Wings. The Blues recalled Walker from their AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds, under emergency conditions Wednesday. The

St. Louis — Last season was a strange experience for everyone in the NHL, with the pandemic raging and a long list of measures taken to keep everyone safe and healthy. Vladislav Namestnikov joined a new team, the Red Wings, making things doubly difficult. “Last year was just a weird year,” Namestnikov said after Thursday’s morning
There’s an old saying, maybe the oldest, in sports writing: No cheering in the press box. OK, maybe it’s not quite as old as editors screaming, “When are you gonna file that stupid thing?” Or writers asking, “Where’s the food?” But it’s old, nonetheless. There’s even a great classic book by Jerome Holtzman that borrows
Pius Suter plans to do a little reading on the Detroit Red Wings’ rivalry with the Colorado Avalanche, maybe on the plane ride to Denver. First, the Wings are challenged with improving their road record when they face the St. Louis Blues. There are the usual questions regarding who will be available — Filip Hronek did not
A sure sign you’ve found a better road is when the potholes are actually unexpected. Or in the case of the Red Wings this season, when a loss at home comes as system shock. That was the case Tuesday night, when Jeff Blashill’s team came out flat-footed against the Nashville Predators at Little Caesars Arena
Detroit — Pius Suter made his NHL debut last season as an undrafted player with the Chicago Blackhawks. It wasn’t an easy transition. Starting over with the Red Wings hasn’t seemed to be a big adjustment for Suter. He carries a six-game point streak into Thursday’s game against the St. Louis Blues. “I was kind of
