The Wings really did Carolina a solid last week by sticking it to Tampa and then floundering against the Canes on Sunday (you could just feel that short-handed goal coming.) Thanks to Detroit, Carolina is the first team to reach twenty wins this season instead of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Go Red Wings, I guess?

Don’t look now, but Anthony Mantha is a point-per-game player over the past five games. Granted, three of those points came against Tampa in that 6-4 drubbing, but five points in five games is what it is. Hronek still paces the team in points, but if the Wings want to regain the magic that allowed them to trounce the Canes way back in the second game of the season (a feat that very few other teams can say they share), then they’ll continue to need some Meatballs by Tony. (Sorry, I’m testing out that expression and you, dear reader, are made to suffer for it.)

On the flip side, Carolina is now on an eight game win-streak. They’ve got to lose eventually, right? Detroit got a little help against Tampa two games ago with a bad start from Curtis McElhinney, but a win is a win and if they can regain some urgency from the Tampa series and infuse it into this next game, well, stranger things have happened.
