Winging It In Motown

Prospects Tournament Update:

The important thing here is the hope that Jared McIsaac can recover from the injury suffered in the first period. he was checked from behind and hit his head into the boards. McIsaac was taken to the hospital.

Here are the updates on McIsaac:

“I was going in on the forecheck and at the last second I saw him turn. It was kind of too late to get out of the way. Things happen so fast at game speed on the ice. It wasn’t my intention to hurt anyone out there. To see that, it’s definitely hard and I’m kind of mad at myself. I just hope he’s OK.”

Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better statement from the guy. I don’t like it happened but what he says does seem to match up with what I saw.

As for the game, it wasn’t any better. The Wings got pasted 7-3 by Columbus.

Chase Pearson got the first Wings goal of the game when the Wings were already down by three. Pasquale Zito scored the second on the power play and Cross Hanas jammed in a greasy goal in the third. The Wings looked promising climbing back from 3-0 to 3-2 but then Columbus outlasted them in the third.

Panarin does not want to be Rangers captain: report – NHL.com

“I think we have more deserving candidates for that role now,” Panarin said Friday. “Would I want it? I’d rather say no, actually.

“I think I’m more effective in hockey,” Panarin said. “And I’m afraid that I won’t be an effective captain. I even don’t speak English. How can I motivate? I can only influence with my own game. And they will listen to me without any letters.”

I don’t want to be the Rangers’ captain either, so there’s something I have in common with Artemi Panarin.

This feels like the kind of comment that will only intensify the feelings a person had about Panarin going in rather than changing any minds. If you think of him as a Russian enigma primadonna money-chaser then this plays in very well to a guy who doesn’t want to put in the work to be a winner. If you view him differently then this plays into the narrative that focusing on what he does well without trying to be bigger than the team.
