Tuesday’s game was technically a hockey game, but it was completely forgettable. Joe Veleno made his NHL debut, so it wasn’t completely forgettable, as he made some very good plays.
Tonight, Detroit travels to Carolina to play a team that is a Stanley Cup contender, but only because there is no way they could play the Red Wings in the playoffs. Through seven games, Detroit has won 4. Winning tonight would mean Detroit wins the season series. So basically Carolina is the Montreal of the 20-21 season.
I have a feeling that there is very little chance that tonight’s game will be as uneventful as the Columbus game. Let’s just hope that Detroit has some of the positive events. Carolina has a lot to play for. They’ve clinched a playoff birth, but if they can stay in first place in the division, they can avoid Tampa or Florida in the first round. They should fare much better against Dallas or Nashville, whichever team finishes fourth.
