Canes’ Blog: Canes Country

Adam Erne and the Red Wings surprised the Canes again two nights ago by taking the W in the shootout, 5-4. I say ‘again’ because Detroit has managed to punch above its weight against Carolina routinely this season. Can they do it again? It will be a tall order, but Erne might just hoist Detroit onto his broad shoulders again and toss the team across the finish line.

That’s not really a fair way to frame it, as silly as Erne’s hot hand has been. Detroit played a strong game on Saturday night and just worked hard for 60 minutes. It’s really what Blashill was preaching last year with that over-the-top “sixty minutes of hell” thing.

Will Detroit find a hero tonight? Erne’s shooting percentage is extremely unsustainable, so someone else will need to wade in at some point and provide some more goals so Erne isn’t the only “depth scoring” on this team. Who’s it going to be? I’ve always had a soft spot for Cholowski, so I’m pulling for him.
